Hoops And Frames

When working on my cross stitch I’ve always used an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric taut, but recently I’ve been wondering whether to try one of those Q-Snap frames.

The hoop leaves very definite creases in the fabric, which are quite difficult to flatten out when it comes to working that area of stitching, which I think the square frame may eliminate.

A couple of things put me off though, and I don’t know anyone who has used one and can offer an opinion.

The frames are quite chunky, so therefore I assume they’re heavier to hold, which could be awkward if working on the stitching for a long time.
Also, can you use a smaller frame to hold an area on a large piece of fabric, as in the pictures the frame seems to hold the entire fabric?
The final thing is the price – they’re a lot more expensive than an embroidery hoop if in the end I don’t like using the frame.

I can’t decide whether it’s worth a try, so at the moment I’m still using the hoop.
